Night Train to Cairo

A mini-campaign using modified Horde of the Rings rules.

Based on the Anglo-Egyptian War, the British launch a campaign to seize Cairo from the Egyptians.

Two separate British forces attempt to march across Northern Egypt, opposed by tow groups of Egyptians.

From Furness Wargamers in the Colonies

The first two simultaneous battles both went the way of the British, but not by much.
The British were then quick to build some Armoured Trains to double their movement on the Campaign map. Movement became cagey between both sides, as the Egyptians attempted to keep both route to Cairo protected, with the British having to resort to brute strength to try and force the passage.

A loss by the British actually helped them in the campaign as the Egyptians advanced too far opening up a route to the Capital for the other British force.

It all came down to a final battle on the outskirts of Cairo, with all forces converging there.

The British scrape a victory in the end, mainly due to the Machine Guns, both on the ground and on the Armoured Trains

Hordes of Blue and Grey

A 3 a side mini campaign, organised by Paul. The Confederation of Tel, Jim and Ethan vs the Union of Martin, Dave M and Tony. Using a variant of the HoTT rules with only 3 unit types and allowing for step reductions in combat, plus an unhistorical balancing of initial forces.

The Union try an early advance into Virginia, loading up two armies versus my one in a re-fight of Bull Run. The other Confederate forces counter by moving into Kentucky with armies from Tennessee and Georgia. With both fights going the way of the Confederates, the Union was put on the back foot straight away.

The Army of North Virginia then marches unopposed into Maryland and capturing Washington, as the remaining Union forces try and repulse the western advance into Indiana.

So the final battle is in Ohio as all the remaining forces converge, with the advantage of units in favour of the Confederates (one of the Union armies only had one element in it!). When the leader of the forces on the Union left met with an untimely demise it forced his army, previously holding its own against the stronger enemy, to retreat leaving the remaining defenders in the centre exposed (they had refused to defend their right flank). Put on an untenable situation the Union had no option but to concede.

End of Empire

The campaign comes to an end as it normally does... with an all out brawl for the crown. Each player was to command his own personal 12 point retinues they meet on the fields outside of Altdorf. Who will dominate, the insurgents or the Emperor and his 'loyal' supporters?

Infestations

The Empire campaign continues, as the new Emperor takes office in Altdorf, a rebellion breaks out, and pesky mythical creatures start interfering.

Paul and Dave S, declares against Emperor Tony and refuses to pay taxes, Matt, declares for Tony but refuses to pay taxes, claiming that his support alone is worth more than any tax. Everyone else pays a small token amount to him.

Meanwhile the newly participating Dave M was joining as 'unknown forces' who would soon make their presence felt.

Empire Games

Missed the first week of the new campaign due to being down south job hunting.

Arrived on the scene this week to be given a small plot of land in the north of a map that seems to be a bit familiar. Campaign is based upon the shenanigans that went on within the Holy Roman Empire but transposed to a fantasy setting.

Italian Armageddon

It's the last battles as the Italian Campaign reaches the end of days in 1501, and the final reckoning takes place. But first some unfinished business needed to be taken care of...

Curse of the Jabberwocky

The Victory conditions are revealed as the campaign reaches it's penultimate week.

As nine armies wait on the border of Papal lands, bad luck is brought-forth from going wilder-shins in the turn order, and from the use of the cursed bones of the Jabberwocky.

Add to that devilish engines of war, and more battles in one night than ever before, is 1500 the year of the Apocalypse? or will it be 1501?

Papal Problems

Things slow down as only the one year gets completed. No sea battles this year, but plenty of action over ports. And the Papal States start to get squeezed a bit.

Holy Roaming Empires

The (Un)Holy Roman Empire, or at least a small part of it, turns up under the command of Elector Jim. As the remaining neutral provinces get overrun things start to get a bit cramped on the mainland.

Papal Bull

After last weeks trial run it's time for a full blooded 'Italian States Campaign'.

Once again using a cut down Horde of the Things, with only 6 troop types (this time including Artillery) and a modified map based campaign system that now covers the whole of Italy and not just the north. Up to 9 states were available, each with differing amount of land and income. States were distributed randomly between the 6 players with 3 states left neutral. France and the (not so) Holy Roman Empire are out of bounds and the historic invasion by the French, to capture Naples, does not occur.

Ring Hordes

A Middle-Earth based game of Hordes of the Things, as the Rohirrim face off against a force of Orcs and Easterlings defending a stronghold. I controlled the Rohir force on the right, matched up against the Easterlings, and also got to roll the command dice for both commands, which I preceded to do badly. Forces supplied by Matt and Dave M.
